Most hostels are treated as stopover points. They have bad reps as dirty, loud and frequented by a “certain clientele”.
We checked in to Lub d Siam Square and the gal at the desk did a double take and asked us to confirm that we were staying for 14 nights?!
2 weeks in one hostel is a long time for most, but when you find the right hostel it can quickly become a home away from home. A place you look forward to coming home to and don’t mind sharing a shower with the entire floor because you’ve been around and know the ropes.
2 weeks allows the long-term traveler to settle down for a bit. To have the guy outside start making your coffee order when he sees you approach and your street-side lunch spot recognizes and welcomes you back. It allows you to get much needed work done, catch up on your sleep from the endless overnight buses and contact all of your friends and family at home to let them know you are still alive.
Lub d is a hostel that is proving the hostel reputation wrong. A home where I feel like wearing my flips in the shower makes the bathroom dirtier due to its immaculate cleanliness.
A home that welcomes all ages, traveling styles and personalities. During my stay at Lub d I visited with your standard backpacker, families of 5 with 3 young kids and even my parents joined us for the last 3 days and stayed in a double deluxe room.
We cannot recommend Lub d Silom or Siam Square enough. This is a place where you are always greeted by the helpful staff with a smile. They are able to answer any questions about Bangkok you have and will share their love of travel with you as this isn’t just a job, but a community. Plus, they can introduce you to fun new foods like fried chicken cartilage!
